William Rimmer: A Yankee Michelangelo Details

From Library Journal Some of the strangest and most disquieting images in the whole history of American art were created by William Rimmer, a physician, medical illustrator, painter, and sculptor. This new book is a catalog with accompanying essays of a travelling exhibition of the artist's work. The last large-scale exhibition of Rimmer's art was in 1946 and the present effort aims to bring our appreciation and understanding of Rimmer and his work up to date. The essays are generally illuminating; the problem is that Rimmer doesn't fit into any neat category. Recommended. Raymond L.
